This is my Jabber/IRC/Twitter client now. One thing is lacking for perfection: Sometimes when I go offline, it doesn't reconnect to various accounts (Twitter especially). But even the nightlies are rock-solid.

Adium is my fave chat client. iChat doesn't have built-in support for everything, and I can't 'get' any other clients. One complaint: no Skype support.

I was using iChat before Adium (finally DL'ed it when I came across a problem with iChat). I actually really like Adium. I use it for AIM, Facebook chat, and Google Talk. It neatly adds all of my buddy list all into one with the option of setting all the same status or different ones. It also can show what song you are playing on iTunes. I'd recommend it.

Facebook now supports the xmpp/jabber protocol:

Using Adium until Digsby gets their port going.

I love having one app to connect to all my chats! Being able to customize the appearance is nice, too. Great program!

Still no video chat. And the IRC and Twitter implementations are very poorly done and suck overall. Good app, but not great.

its good, but not great

So amazing. I've been using it for years, periodically switching to something with video chat (iChat or a GMail window), but whenever I come back to Adium, I am blown away by how beautiful it can be. It is 100% customizable with a ginormous array of interface extras available.

I do wish it had video, but as rarely as I use that function, I can easily switch to one of the uglier, less cool programs.

Its Twitter implementation is great, especially with the "Blackened" theme; it's at least 85% as functional as most real Twitter clients.

Download Adium 1.4 beta 9, it has IRC support and Twitter too. It's amazing, I'm using Adium as my IM, IRC, and Tweeting app all in one. Plus customization is impressive. 10/10.
