AppDelete

Version: 3.0 || Release Date: 2009-09-18 || License: Shareware ($5) Developer: Reggie Ashworth

Deletes apps and their associated files.

AppDelete is an application for Macs that will delete the application you choose and any associated items (files and folders) that belong to that applicatioAppDelete will delete the application you choose and any associated items (files and folders) that belong to that application. Now you will no longer have to hunt through your system to find these items and delete them manually. Or worse, just let them sit on your Mac forever even though the application is long gone!

To run AppDelete just drag the application or folder containing the application you want to delete onto the AppDelete icon. You can also select from the main menu, right-click an item in the Finder using the AppDelete Automator workflow, or just drop an app in the Trash. An easy way is to keep AppDelete in your dock so you can drag your app or folder containing the app onto the icon in your dock. After doing this AppDelete will search your system to find the associated items. After clicking on "Delete" these items will be moved inside of a folder in the trash named "AppDelete" with the name of the app you dragged onto the icon. You can inspect this folder if you like before emptying the trash.

AppDelete also has a "Undo" feature, the ability to "Log only" for reference, it can search for invisible or "hidden" items, and more! And AppDelete keeps a log of all processing that it does.

@johnny_boy : I agree. It seems to be signifigantly improved, and probably worth 5 bucks, but I was a bit cheesed to find out about the new price tag after the update had erased the old version.

Also, the screenshot should be updated.

I originally paid $5 for the application. Later, my license stopped working. I emailed the dev on a Sunday and received a reply & fix in <15 minutes. With AppCleaner being a free alt, there would seem little reason to pay $5. However, AppDelete is updated regularly, and I get the feeling you can email the dev any problems and get them fixed quickly (AppCleaner hasn't been updated in 9-10 months).

@alistair Main point: AppDelete finds more associated files than AppCleaner, making it the better solution.

So while I agree that the payment options may be slim, trolling/spamming a meaningful opinion–one that compares the functionality of this app to similar ones–is not conducive to this forum. What I said was on topic. I was justifying the modest fee by a review of the app.

@oldsystem Some people may want to pay to support and keep using the app, but to some people $5 is more than a beer and to other people PayPal isn't available.

I ended up using AppCleaner to remove AppDelete.

Hi from Reggie the Developer for AppDelete! :-)

I want to thank all of you for your posts and I do apologize for any confusion regarding the "free" label for AppDelete 2.0. I am currently waiting for this site to update the listed info and I expect it will be done soon. As for the switch over to AppDelete 2.0 again I do apologize for any confusion as it was not meant to be misleading in any way. It's just simply the old version is being told a new one is available. You can read more about this on my site by clicking the Homepage link above, and please do email me from my site for any further questions. Also there is now a 2.0.1 update available for download. Thank you for you interest and for using AppDelete! :-)

Sincerely,

Reggie Ashworth

AppDelete suddenly held up the tip jar after a few uses, and announced to me that it has turned shareware for this latest version. I don't have anything against the principles of paid software. I DO however find the way in which the software communicated this information rude and distasteful. The information should have been shown when I was about to update the software, not when I'm about to use it.

I want to note that I just paid the $5 for this app, because it's a great one, and is worth $5 to me.
However (as it is currently labeled) it is NOT freeware and should NOT be labeled as such. It is 'shareware' at best, but I would call it '$5 + demo'.
