Application Enhancer

haxie enhances apps via modules

Application Enhancer is a system which allows for 3rd party modules to modify and enhance the way applications behave and operate. Application Enhancers work on an application level, therefore they do not affect the stability of the underlying system. The technology behind Application Enhancer system has been in research and development for more than 4 years now, and many Unsanity haxies (including WindowShade X, FruitMenu, Silk and others) are now using it. The software development kit for developing modules is also available on the Application Enhancer home page.

Like shingas, I appreciate what Unsanity has made possible. If you're the regular word-processor/IM/email/internet type user, then you probably won't encounter any problems with APE. Though, if you're going to be doing anything interesting, just stay away. I lost a HD (kernel panic) thanks to APE (not by itself), and have experienced more unidentifiable problems using APE than not.

As with any software there will be incompatibilities and risks. It's up to the user to decide if its use is worth it to them. Whether or not Apple supports a piece of software such as APE, really has no bearing on anything when the software is easily uninstalled. As a non-user of APE, I still appreciate the option Unsanity gives me to modify my system in interesting ways if I so desired.

I have a PB G4, and no problems yet. Cleardock, Detour (no customisations yet), Shapeshifter, and Slider are all doing okay. I tested LabelsX and WindowShadeX, and it ran their demos just fine.

Note that Apple will not support any system with APE installed - reason enough to stay away from it as a user. Developers note: you are limiting your user community to those who do not need any support from Apple.

Been using it for WindowShadeX and ClearDock, along with a couple other ones that come and go as I need them.
Highly recommended. I've never had a single problem with it (PBG4), and no noticeable slowdown at all. Fantastic app.

If your Rosetta problems happen still even with the new update, try entering this into Terminal.

I use it all of the time for LabelsX, Fruitmenu, Cleardock, Windowshade X, Shapeshifter, and for Instant Hijack Server (for AudioHijack Pro) all on a Macbook Pro and before that on a Powerbook. However there have been a few problems with Rosetta applications not starting up since I started using APE with the MBP. The problems, though, have not been so bad that I've been willing to give up using Fruitmenu for more than a few days. I gues you can say that I'm kind of addicted to APE.

I use it to Run WindowShadeX under 10.4.8 - no problems to date.

I use it because I run Shapeshifter and ClearDock.

APE is very, very bad. Stay as far away from APE as you can. You OS will thank you.
