An 'armillary' is a sphere that shows the various celestial coordinate schemes, allowing the user to see how they interact to help in locating celestial objects. Besides showing celestial objects it, also allows travelling forward through time to see the celestial movements. You can adjust what guide lines are shown, as well as star magnitudes. Make sure your location is set correctly in the preference panel or it won't know where you are!
