As far as I'm concerned, this is my most essential app. Yes, it is a little bit pricier than the other editors out there, but I love the customizability of BBEdit (even in little things, like setting key combinations) and I'm so much more productive with it. And as far as the price goes, you can get BBEdit for almost half price by crossgrading from TextWrangler (which is free).

Honestly? TextWrangler does everything I need, and it's free. But I've paid for the last few upgrades of BBEdit just to encourage the guys at BareBones to keep cranking out incredibly good software. Spend the money and relax in the knowledge that you're using the best text editor on any platform, and that you've helped keep good developers supplied with pizza and Mountain Dew. :-)

This thing rocks. If you are going to do serious text manipulation, BBEdit is the only way to fly.

Best text editor you can buy for the Mac, but it is pricy. Check out TextWrangler or Smultron if you want something free.

The grand-daddy of all text editors on the Mac - but, alas, it is overpriced and full of itself. There are others apps that come close to what BBEdit does and are significantly less. And to be honest, BBEdit has not changed a whole lot since I started using it in 1995 ... except that it gets more expensive.
