BlackenedPixels is a variation of the "basic black" screensaver concept. Not only does it turn your screen black, but it also powers down all the displays to keep the room cool and dark. G5 owners will appreciate this one even more, considering the heat their hardware already brings down on them. Unless they live in Canada, Alaska or great mother Russia.

For those looking for a Snow Leopard & up compatible version:

Does not work on Snow Leopard :-(

This is so wicked. Nice and simple like it should be. Better than just putting a black jpeg in a folder for the screen saver.

groxx: I believe that, with this, you can invoke the black screen manually, as opposed to the Energy Saver, which only does it if you've been inactive for a certain amount of time.

So awesome. I've been looking for this for a long time.

Can't you do the same thing in Energy Saver? Just turn the screen turn-off time earlier. It powers them down too, doesn't it?

I can't speak for G5 users, Canadians, Alaskans or great mother Russians, but anyone with a MacBook or MBP needing to download large files overnight from slow servers will appreciate the darkness this screensaver provides.
