i don't get it
has the application not been created yet (then it shouldn't be listed here) or are all the download links broken (and should be edited)?
The downloadable file is not easy to find in the page to where this link leads. (I could not find it there.)
But if you download directly from this page in iusethis.com, you'll get it.
And now that WriteRoom is no longer free, this a great alternative.
(I know that the free version 1.0 of WriteRoom is still available. But, nevertheless, I prefer BlockWriter.)
For some reason, the link points us to the article that inspired the software rather than the software itself. There is a prototype app with this name and icon, though, and you can find informaton and a download link on this forum at Literature and Latte:

It doesn't mute your speakers, quit your instant messenger or cancel your magazine subscriptions, but it does go some way towards emulating a typewriter to encourage forward writing.
It's quite nifty, once you stop playing with the strike-through deletes, but it is just a prototype and may still eat your data. If you're looking for a reliable full-screen, low-distraction writing environment, WriteRoom (or CopyWrite, Avenir, Ulysses, ScrivenerGold or Jer's Novel Writer) may suit you better for now (although they all allow you to edit freely).
If you want an environment that FORCES you to write forwards, with very little scope for sneaky editing, start up your favorite word processor, hit mute, and switch off your display (or turn the brightness down to zero, or cover it with a piece of cloth). No joke. It helps. Just clean up the mess later; it's only a draft.
Correct me if I 'm wrong, but there's no actual downloadable app there, right? I'm all for this kind of app (I'd love to have something like this myself), but shouldn't this site be for tools we can download and use?
Come to think of it, there IS an app like this, called WriteRoom from Hogbay Software.

It isn't "all that it can be" yet. Maybe someone should tell Hogbay about the BlockWriter concept? :)

NUUUUUUUUUUURSE!!!!!!!
Does anyone have a take on the disabled copy/paste concept in this application? Seems interesting, yet... strange. Back to the old days somehow. :)

What a fantastic app! Beats WriteRoom over the head.
The current version (1.0) is Universal Binary.
That's the information I get from the Finder (File - Get Info).

This seems like a very cool concept :) I could do with blocking out all distractions when I code as well.
