Nice editor... it has the few features I want like split-pane view of a document, syntax highlighting, and add/remove indent without lots of the extra programmers' editor tools I never use. Great small, fast app!
Step aside, TextWrangler! (On my machine, at leastâ¦)
As far as free text editors go, I always have TextWrangler on hand. One of the first installs when I start fresh on a system. I don't think that's going to change, to be honest, because TextWrangler definitely has some points that CotEditor doesn't. But as far as my practical needs are concerned, CotEditor steps forward and pushes into the features that I've sought from paid text editorsâ¦
The scriptability is about on par with TextWrangler - simple, quick, very usable. Yet CotEditor feels just slightly more accessible to me, can't put my finger on itâ¦
I don't think TextWrangler has support for keybindings like CotEditor does. It's less useful than a transformation tool, but it definitely helps being able to map shift-enter to close a p tag, add a new line, and open a new p tagâ¦
I don't know, but I think I'll be holding onto CotEditor for a while. It just has a grace about it that TextWrangler lacks. For now, they coexist.
Doesn't have web preview, can't store code snippets & page templates. For editing HTML pages, it's better to use an app with those features.
Simple, powerful, attractive. I use it in combination with MAMP and Cyberduck to code PHP.
Despite it being a Japanese page, and obviously oriented for the Japanese programmer, there's a lot of good stuff here. Simple, clean interface, but with a lot of (surprisingly easily) modifiable sections. Many developers could learn a thing or two from this app.
I also don't notice any Japanese sections, and the translation is very good (not perfect, but better than some American apps even). Give it a try if you need a basic coding app. There's even fully-modifyable keyboard shortcuts for just about everything.
This app most likely has a dedicated spot on my HD from now on.
fast, complete, nice
from the google translate of that page (http://tinyurl.com/jsdwf)
"It is the editor who reads and writes the plain text file.
