Google's Quick Search Box now searches iTunes quite nicely, as well as many other things, and is free. I don't see why anyone would pay for this now.
I got this as part of a bundle; nasically it organizes some of Quicksilver's functions along with replacing last.fm and GrowlTunes, in a single app.
At 14.95 euro, the price point is EXTREMELY steep for North Americans, and given that the only thing I can't duplicate with free apps is the music search bar, it's not worth $26 CAD. So I'll continue to use it, but I probably won't upgrade to 4.
Today CoverSutra is available for free! Check out the developer's blog at: http://www.sophiestication.com/blog/happy-birthday-coversutra/
Love the app, but now that I have multiple monitors, I'd really like a controller that will stay on the screen all the time. The badge doesn't show on the Path Finder desktop, as someone else mentioned, but I don't blame the developer for that.
This program has a great interface and is highly customizable. However, the memory footprint is quite large. When I installed the app, it ran around 250 MB on my machine -- close to that of iTunes! Go with GrowlTunes instead.
You Control: iTunes kicks the crap out of this, and it's free.
For search I prefer Quicksilver.
There is a hidden option for those people who prefer the heart over the note icon in the menu bar. You have to set this using the Terminal application. Do the following to alter the menu items appearance:
- Quit CoverSutra and open the Terminal application.
- Type in the following line into the terminal:
defaults write com.sophiestication.CoverSutra gender 'female'
The heart icon should then appear after you’ve restart CoverSutra.
2.1.4 seems to have fixed the problems in 2.1.2 ... but I miss the heart-shaped icon...
Great iTunes controller. Search gets a little wonky at times and can hangup the app. If you want basic Last.fm integration this is fine, but for more functions use something like iScrobbler. Developer has been responsive with emails.
@neuemodern : CoverSutra does support Growl. If you hold down the ALT key whilst viewing CoverSutra's menu, you'll see "Preferences..." change to "Advanced Preferences..."
If you go into the advanced preferences you can select to use Growl for song notifications.
