Data Rescue II

Version: 3.0.1 || Release Date: 2009-10-27 || License: Shareware ($99.00) App Owner: chrisdkk

Do you have a corrupt hard drive or one that no longer mounts? Are other tools failing to even recognize your bad drive?

Data Rescue II is the best data recovery utility on the market for recovering files from a problem hard drive. Other utilities can cause more damage to your hard drive and files by trying to 'fix' the problem, instead of focusing on recovering your files.

All in all, I have not been impressed with this program. Realistic recovery of a drive can often take 3-4 days (running non-stop). And even then, what you get back is typically a bunch of random file fragments that are next to impossible to get back together. If you're desperate I would try it, but a much better solution is to just keep good Time Machine backups.

The price of this program may seem high but in certain dire circumstances it may be the ONLY thing that will get back your valuable data in an intact state (in my experience).

Helped me find a fourty minute interview. It was all chopped up into one minute segments which I pieced together in iTunes. Still, without Data Rescue II, it would have been gone forever.

I had the unfortunate occasion of using Data Rescue after I accidentally installed a copy of Mac OS X on my backup drive that was holding my computer's files after it had failed to install OS X on it. What a remarkable program! It retrieved 90% of what I had on the drive, even though it was "erased" by the Apple installer before OS X was put on it.

I was a moron and accidently deleted a bunch of files on my backup drive of all places. Data Rescue II was the only program that could get any of them back. It isn't the cleanest program in the world but it works and it saved my most important stuff when all the other programs failed.
