New "Office" version with additional features over the Pro version...

In today’s world, everything is digital. From shopping receipts to important research papers, your life often fills your hard drive in the form of emails, PDFs, Word documents, multimedia files and more. Questions eventually pop up, like where do you store all of this stuff? How do you organize these very different file types, and even better, how do you find the exact file you’re looking for the second you need it? It’s almost as if you need a second brain just to keep your digital life straight.

Enter DEVONthink: The solution to this digital age conundrum. It is your second brain, the one and only database for all your digital files, be they PDFs, emails, Word docs or even multimedia files. Boasting a refined artificial intelligence, DEVONthink is exceedingly flexible and adapts to your personal needs. And if the files are not digital yet, digitize them with DEVONthink Pro Office.

Use it as your document repository, your filing cabinet, your email archive, or your project organizer; DEVONthink can do it all. You can even collect and organize data from the web for your own use, enrich it with sound and movie files from your hard drive, and then export the finished product as a website or to an Apple Pages document to print, should you so desire. Or copy the content to your iPod! The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination

Pricey but worth every bit of it. Wonderful program. I would buy a Mac just to use this!

This really is a great app, and unique as far as I can work out. What distinguishes it from other information repository software is the artificial intelligence functionality, which can auto-classify documents as they come in, and show you documents that are similar in meaning to a passage that you highlight. The OCR and integration with scanners mean that you can start integrating paper documents with electronic ones. (Note that if you don't need this added functionality you can buy much cheaper versions of DEVONthink.)

I guess the biggest minus right now is that the interface is starting to look a bit dated and unwieldy. Hopefully, that will be put right in version 2, which has been promised for this year.

I love this app and use it all the time, esp with DEVONagent but I agree with ttague that it has drawbacks. In addition to no support for MS Project files, it also won't allow you to have multiple databases open at the same time. It's maddening but it is still a highly useful app.

I love this app. I use it extensively both on my research, as on my free time. I also miss the lack of support of .xls and .ppt, but I can work around it by including pdf versions of the files I need.

Moreover, it has a great support from their dev team.

Bottom line: 4.5/5. Why not 5? Because I’m sure this application will improve. It’s too soon to give it 5. :)

I was sold. I was a convert. Intelligent document searching! It was great - until I discovered no .xls or .ppt support. While I may not like it - presentations and spreadsheets are what I need to organize. If the app can't see inside them - it's not really a big help.
