Tried to compare two directories (~ 1 GB, ~ 50000 files) : used more than 900 MB RAM, shadow comparison took about 10 minutes (after which real binary comparison starts).
On the same folders, KDiff3 used about 150 MB RAM, and finished in less than 2 minutes.
