DiskWarrior

Version: 4.2 || Release Date: 2009-08-27 || License: Commercial with demo ($79.95)

DiskWarrior uses a different approach to disk directory repair than other programs. DiskWarrior is not a disk repair program in the conventional sense. Instead of patching the original directory, it uses a patent-pending technology to quickly build a new replacement directory using data recovered from the original directory, thereby recovering files and folders that you thought were lost and that no other program could recover.

I bought this in desperation, trying to save a dying drive. It didn't work. Fortunately, my Time Machine backups fully restored me to a new disk.

Current version is 4.2, via downloadable disc updater (requires serial and original 4.x disc).

I've been a user of DiskWarrior for many years and I can attest to its effectiveness at solving disk-related issues - it's been a lifesaver on several occasions.

A Leopard-compatible version has been available for some time now, but the updater still hasn't been made available to existing users. The "Free CD Updater Available soon for Version 4.0" text on their website is getting a little old.

Alsoft, I encourage you to support users like myself who have paid for several upgrades and want to be able to use your software on Leopard without having to boot off the 4.0 CD.

I wasn't a believer, but when my backup FireWire disk turned up one day as dysfunctional I turned to DiskWarrior first since I knew what it was. Saved my backside! :D

If you only buy one disk repair utility... make it DiskWarrior.

A great app, but I had only upgraded a month or so before I switched to an Intel Mac, which is not currently supported. I hope I won't be waiting too long!

With its new journaling filesystem, Mac users don't need disk maintenance nearly as often as they once did. Still, this program remains the bees knees and the cat's meow for disk repair. It's a one trick pony, but what a trick! This program can:

  • Restore a drive that refuses to mount successfully
  • Recover files lost due to directory corruption
  • Keep your Mac running happily and smoothly by running it once a month or so
  • Keep you up to date on your HD's S.M.A.R.T. status to warn of impending failure

In short: Awesome. A must have against that day when you need it.
