DropDMG is the easiest way to create Mac OS X disk images. Just drag and drop a folder or file, and DropDMG will create an image in .dmg, .img, or .smi format--or a Tar, Zip, or StuffIt archive. Or, you can drag an existing image or archive file onto DropDMG to easily convert it to any of the other supported formats. DropDMG supports encryption, segmented images, and custom icons, and it can create images with rich-text license agreements in multiple languages.

7 Opinions:
arundel: I'm not aware of any problems with cleanup when segmenting or creating. If you can find a way to reproduce the behavior that you describe, please report it to dropdmg@c-command.com. Which menu command do you think should be a button, and in which window would you like to see that button?
I agree with the previous post. FreeDMG is... free and with it you may create encrypted disk images.
Or then use Disk Utility, that comes with Mac OS X. You can find it in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder.
I'd recommend FreeDMG... which is free.
Very helpful, certainly, but I'm noticing that it handles super-large archives (20GiB+) poorly when creating/splitting, especially if it fails (no cleanup, invisible mount). And the menu options for going to customize presets confuse me every(!) time. Why no button? Buttons are nice and only rarely cause global destruction.
DropDMG is a lot easier to use that Disk Utility. I just drop a folder on it and I have a dmg file. No muss, no fuss, no clicking, menu scrubbing, nothing. It's just done.
Great utility for anyone making release-level disk images. Nice to have for personal use as well, but mostly suited for creating images you'll distribute.
We're using it for our software now and plan to use it for all other projects in the future.
Personally, I prefer to save my $15, and continue to use Disk Utility.
