Renaming files has never been easier
If you need to rename several files at once every now and then, this is the application you have always been looking for. Name Mangler is a batch file renamer that supports all common renaming tasks: Find and Replace (including support for regular expressions); Number Sequentially; Change Case; Set Extension; Add Prefix/Suffix; Remove/Insert Characters.
Moreover, you can combine all of these using the Advanced renaming mode, which even comes with some extra features, such as conditional statements, nested counters, and more.

10 Opinions:
This application is great. It used to be FileList. This version is a great improvement.
New name: Name Mangler.
Requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
I basically just use this handy tool for generating m3u playlists, but I might start using it for batch file editing too now that I read about it from other users here. Currently I use Automator for such tasks but it's a bit slow to load.
A bit slow to load, maybe it would be better if it were a universal binary.
I only wish you could quit File List by normal Command-Q means. Otherwise, this is my favorite batch renamer!
Excellent app!
I find this to be a more intuitive interface for batch file editing than Automator.
To each his own. This works great.
Essential software that allows you to batch rename multiple files easily. For instance, change camera pictures from Pic0002123x.jpg, Pic0002124x.jpg, Pic0002125x.jpg to a better format like AtTheBeach1.jpg, AtTheBeach2.jpg, AtTheBeach3.jpg etc etc.
Very Very Useful and a must have...
....especially if you don't use automator.
Let's you rename files using regular expressions (grep) -- incredibly handy.
FileList is a great little application which is remarkably powerful in batch renaming files. You will be astonished by how much it can accomplish with its extremely minimalist interface. Great App.
