HighC
A graphical music creation tool
HighC is a synthesizer, a sequencer and a mixer. Its goal is to make music composition as simple and direct as sketching.
HighC is an entertaining and educational tool:
No music experience needed to create stunning soundscapes and crazy ringtones in a matter of minutes. Helps learning acoustics, music theory and audio synthesis with a gentle, graphic approach.
HighC also meets demanding professional needs:
Includes many advanced synthesis techniques: FM, ring mod, additive, granular, and much more. No complex dashboards of knobs, dials and connectors with unpredictable effects. No programming.
HighC uses only the simplest GUI techniques: draw notes, envelopes and wave shapes; move and resize sounds; copy and paste to create effects; group sounds into rhythms or patterns; repeat your groupings to create an harmonic line; link your sounds to one another to create modulations...

3 Opinions:
garage band's compositional features are not really oriented toward creation with it's built in step-editor. although it is there, it seems to be largely for the purpose of editing rather than creating. i have tried out logic though & reason, both of which would suit my needs. when i get logic or reason for free, then i will be able to incorporate my highc sounds into my compositions. highc is a great and novel application though.
@haleakalari: GarageBand doesn't do it for you?
If you have feature requests, please post them in the forum: http://highc.org/forum.
now, if only there was a free/open source audio sequencer (with a step editor) for os x, then i could put the sounds i create with this to good use.
