iAlertU Universal Binary

Version: 0.29b || Release Date: 2007-12-16 || License: Freeware

iAlertU is an alarm system for the MacBook computers. Once it is running, you simply press and hold the "menu" button of the Apple Remote to activate it. Once activated, an alarm sound starts whenver the computer is moved (more triggers are available) and the only way to stop it is to use the same Apple Remote. It also uses the iSight to take snapshots of the "thief".

A heavy duty Kensington lock kinda helps it along...

though, if i was to annoy someone, i wouldn't steal it..
smashing it up would annoy the owners more!

This is a good novelty program that I use at home, but I couldn't really see myself using it in a public place as:

1) The noise would annoy the hell out of a lot of people

2) I wouldn't leave my Macbook by itself anyway.

But a good app none the less.

Well done, continually updated and expanded upon, a developer in touch with forum suggestions, and the whole thing's donation-driven. Doesn't get any better than that.

For someone like myself who uses my Mac in places that it is unlikely to get stolen (I go to a very small college), it beats lock-and-key and gives me profound peace of mind when I walk away to use the restroom or chat with other library denizens. Perfect tool. (Oh, and if you don't like the 'armed' noise, you could always just remove it from the Resources folder, right? ;)

Awesome(ly annoying) "car-alarm" app for your Powerbook, iBook, MacBook, MacBook Pro (with Sudden Motion Sensor).
