Is not abandoned, the Yahoo Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iComic_group/ continues with activity. The users comunity of iComic continues develop new plugins for new strips.
And now Steve Saxon says: "I'm currently developing a new version of iComic that runs as a Dashboard widget in MacOS 10.4 Tiger"
While it has its quirks (and I'm looking into the source to see if I can fix some of them), it's a fantastic program. It easily downloads and displays comics, ordered by their date, and it's the envy of ALL my PC-using friends. Give it a try, it'll probably hook you on webcomics.
Unfortunately, it's seemingly been abandoned (though the creator quickly responds to emails), so bugfixes aren't looking too likely. Still, it's a wonderful app for viewing/caching comics, I have YEARS of of Dilbert backed up already, along with entire archives of a dozen other comics.
Plugin development for it requires perl knowledge, but it's pretty simple.
