iLAS is a very simple application that allows you to import a CD or encode a playlist in iTunes using Lame 3.97.
It doesn’t sparkle and it won’t make you go oooohhhh or aaaahhhh but it will do the one thing it is designed to do.

Also check iTunes-LAME by Quicksilver author. It's out of beta.
Note: the recommended lame version is currently 3.97.

How about just a LAME front end, excluding the whole iTunes integration. I know there is MAX...but maybe something that could be lighter...
