Indigo is expensive but it is probably one of the most robust and extensible home control apps out there. It's interface, while not as graceful as many OSX interfaces, is not too hard to learn and use and looks mostly polished. If you're really into home automation, have an always-on server, and want both Insteon (woohoo!) and X10 (what!? Dad's technology?) support, Indigo is probably your only bet (and they know it). Still, they'd have significantly more users if they'd drop the price. At the time of this writing, the lite version is $90 but the Pro version (umm... the "real" version) is a whopping $180. Only the most hard-core geeks shell out that kinda money for geek toys like Indigo. Just saying, it'd be affordable at half the price.
