Fantastic app.
nice user interface (clean and simple)

My vote for the worst Apple application. The filing and searching features are a nightmare. I only use it to retrieve photos from my digital camera, and then switch to Photoshop (which fortunately can be used internally for editing) or upload to Flickr (using the Flickr Uploader, not the lousy Flickr plugin).
Can't wait for something better (Flickr style but as a standalone application with digital camera and Photoshop integration, rather than a web-based one) to come along.

The photo books are awesome. My standard xmas present to my parents these days is a photo book recapping the year's best photos of my son (their grandson)
I agree with stecchino. It does everything I as an amateur photographer need it to do. My biggest complaint with iphoto is how large the iphoto library folder can get once it saves modified images, original images, and thumbnails. Overall though, it gets an A.
Fairly ubiquitous. It's come a long way since version 1.0 and version 6 is pretty quick on Intel-based Macs. The photo books are FANTASTIC gifts.
