it looks cool, that is all.
you can't compare directories, you can't save comparisons and you can't merge. scrolling through "huge" text files (100k lines) is impossible.

Without support for merging changes and diffing directory contents, this endeavour is going to loose money and, eventually, simply die. No matter how genuinely well-crafted and polished it looks.

Despite the fact that it shows some promising touches – still, arguably mostly what you'd expect from a decent diff tool – I don't get why it was decided that it ought to be released just now, in a state of being far too feature incomplete.

Take my negativism for what it is, but I think it's growing far too common in the Mac application market, that developers focus more on the 'package' than they do in task fulfillment and completeness.

Before buying this, I advise you to look at Diffmerge first and see it it is sufficient.
It is not as beautiful as this but very functional.

Agreed! I don't really get the image thing, to be honest. This has a lot of promise, if they'd just put the effort into making a spectacular diff/merge tool, and not worry about 'what else can we diff?!'

I'd rather their roadmap go toward improving the (already pretty excellent) diff UI, improving stability, and working on merging. Hopefully Sofa does that route rather than, say, allowing me to diff audio.

I love Versions, but Kaleidoscope is a bit of a downer in its first release. It's beautiful, but has no functionality beyond comparing text files and images. There's no way to merge anything. No directory diffs. It even crashes on certain files, I suspect because they contain non-English text.

Here's hoping that Sofa can pull it together and make a great product out of this, the Mac needs a great diff tool. For the time being I'll stay with p4merge. The best is still FileMerge, if only it would handle UTF-8 correctly.
