Knox

Version: 2.0.1 || Release Date: 2010-05-30 || License: Commercial with demo ($34.95) Developer: Agile Web Solutions, Inc. | App Owner: markonen

Secure encryption and backup solution.

As the only integrated solution for encryption and backup, Knox makes securing your files easier than ever. Create as many encrypted vaults as you want, each with separate passwords. Then schedule automatic backups. You can even reformat USB sticks and external drives as encrypted Knox vaults - moving files between Macs has never been so simple and secure.

Knox uses the Mac OS X encrypted disk images feature, the technology behind FileVault, to protect your data. This means that your vaults are encrypted by the U.S. Government’s new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 256-bit or 128-bit key length. The AES algorithm is secure, but don’t take our word for it: even the NSA has found its strength to be sufficient for protecting classified national security information. The implication? Your data will be safe whether it's a rogue kid or a rogue nation going after it.

And because the encrypted disk images are supported as standard in Mac OS X, Knox vaults - including whole disks encrypted with Knox - can be opened even without Knox installed.

This app is now owned & distributed by Agile Web Solutions, makers of 1Password. It's also 50% temporarily, so the Single User license is $17.48, and I assume the 5-User is $29.97. Go get it on the cheap!

The European price includes 22% VAT. As such, the price difference between the U.S. and EU prices is currently under 50 cents. Of course, this has fluctuated wildly with the exchange rates.

Why do European customers have to pay the same price in Euros, instead of the equivalent? Since when is $ 29 = € 29?

Good app, but definitely overpriced.
Could be a way more useful with 50% off :)
At least I'd expect a bit richer feature set for that money…

Using sym links that I created in Terminal, I've rerouted all of my primary directories (pictures, music, movies, documents, etc) into my Knox archive, for complete system security. I've recently found that this works with email, as well (Mail.app).

As stated below, while Knox isn't a necessity, it's definitely convenient. After an hour or so of use I purchased a license and have been using it problem-free for over a year now.

Highly recommended!

This is a terrific app for porn lovers

I really laugh at that very much :-)
while he is probably right, lol

A small package that does one thing and does it well. While it's not an absolute necessity (you can do the same thing with Disk Utility and sparse disk images), it makes managing encrypted volumes a lot more convenient.
