KompoZer (Nvu's unofficial bug-fix release)

Version: 0.7.10 || Release Date: 2007-08-29 || License: Freeware

KompoZer is a wysiwyg HTML editor (Nvu/Composer fork) aimed towards advanced users. I consider it as an unofficial bug-fix release for Nvu.

KompoZer brings back the fun to NVU. A free open-source HTML editor with CSS-support. It doesn't replace Dreamweaver, but it's a very useful tool for smaller web projects.

I was seriously disappointed by NVU. The feature set made sense. A simple WYSIWIG HTML-Editor with CSS support. All you need for a small, but technically sophisticated web project. Exzellent idea! But first Linspire totally overhyped the project as a Dreamweaver "rival". Then they released a version 1.0 that was so unstable that it became pointless to use. Then they never fixed it. Horrible.

KompoZer actually works. Try it! :-)

From the FAQ:
Why call it «KompoZer» instead of «Nvu»?
Because « Nvu and the Nvu logo are trademarks of Linspire Inc. »
As Linspire stopped the development of Nvu, there is no legal way to correct any bug in Nvu.

Why is it only a 0.7.10 version?
Because for 99% of the developers in the world, including myself, a «1.0» version means it's ready for professional use. Nvu is very far from that.

KompoZer is already much more stable than Nvu, but there are some bugfixes and features that are necessary before I can decently call it a 1.0 version.
