Unfortunately for Apple, the ambient light sensor isn't always right and you might want you to adjust your keyboard illumination level in daylight but also at night since sometimes the illumination isn't set high enough, well, lab tick does the trick for you. Just to be on the safe side, go into System Preferences > Keyboard and make sure the Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions tick is nowhere to be seen after you've launched Lab Tick and set its preferences for the first time

@slimeyapple : this is useful in daylight. On a macbook pro, by default you can't turn on backlighting in daylight.
[??] My[G4] Powerbook's F8 key turns off the backlighting, and the F9/F10 keys work to dim or brighten the light.
If you have a Mac laptop with keyboard backlighting, YOU WANT THIS UTILITY!
Especially at that sensible, reasonable price. ;-)
This may come in really handy for some people.
