Magnifies an area of the screen with selectable zoom and refresh rate. Good when pixel-perfect precision is needed in an application without this facility. Macnifier is the only magnification program I tried which manages to keep the center correct when you resize the magnification window. Pity it's only Rosetta.

The zoom is different to a magnifier program. There is no grid and no ability to see both the up close and the distant simultaneously.
I'm not at all saying this will surpass the possible qualities of Macnifier (in all honesty, I haven't tested it), but I'm quite happy with the feature introduced in Tiger, that lets you zoom in and out by holding down Ctrl and drag the mouse wheel up or down. (You may adjust the settings for this feature in the Universal Acces pane in System Preferences.)
