Version: 3.4.2/410 || Release Date: 2012-10-08 || License: Freeware Developer: | App Owner: red5230

Mail Unread Menu is a simple menu bar application which can provide you with a quick and easy way to see how many unread email messages are in apple's mail.app. unlike other menu bar notification applications, mail unread menu is actually a plugin for mail.app, which means that the count is instantaneously updated whenever you recieve new email or change the status of a message.

This is a really handy little app - saves me having to mouseover my dock every so often to check for emails. Works fine with Mail 4.5 on OS 10.6.7.

Great, simple app that works really well. It's preference window interface is a little wonky, but other than that I love this app. Couldn't live without it.

Use it every day and love it. It's simple, i don't have to show the dock to check the messages but the only problem is that it sometimes takes longer than normal to update itself. Love it though, will keep it running always, or at least until it's a native feature of OSX.

This is a disaster on leopard 10.5.4. After I installed it on my machine, the icon disapeared but was still running in activity monitor, and then this morning my mail app was buggered and had to delete the .com.apple.mail file. Someone else installed it on their machine at the same time as me and they had the exact same problem with mail, as well as their whole screen turning into blocks of colour. Proceed with caution

This thing is pretty much garbage on Leopard. After installing it I just get a spinning beachball of death whenever I open up Apple Mail.

@ bitnix:
I suppose Mail Unread Menu works only when Mail.app is open.
If you want to check your POP account without opening Mail.app, you may try MailWidget:
http://osx.iusethis.com/app/mailwidget
It checks your POP account everytime you activate the Dashboard or periodically (every 5 minutes or every 10 minutes, for example).

Would be cool if it polled for unread mail without actually having to open Mail.app.

At least that's how it worked last time I checked, some years ago. It's the same nowadays too, right?

Folks, this app is for people who have the dock hidden and don't want to show the dock every time they simply want to know how many new messages they have.

BRH:
That crazy clock (as you wrote) is from a little application called MenuPics, that changes the look of the menu items.
You may find it here:
http://osx.iusethis.com/app/menupics
It's not Universal Binary. It's PowerPC only. And I didn't try it yet in my Intel-based iMac. So, I can't tell you if it works here."

actually it's not. MenuPics changes the MenuBar icons. The clock is actually FuzzyClock, which can be found here: http://osx.iusethis.com/app/fuzzyclock

Well, it appears I've run into a problem. Mail Unread Menu won't give me a mail-count. It was working fine until a couple of days after I started using it. Now, it just sits in the menubar and won't give me any sort of mail-count. I get this in Console.app when I open up Mail.app while Mail Unread Menu is on.
