This is awesome. So simple, yet so practical.

Try this for a free, built-in, distraction free writing environment:

1. Launch TextEdit
2. Command-shift-T -- or Format > Make Plain Text
3. Command-Return to enter full screen
4. Command-Option-Ctrl-8 -- Switches to White-on-Black mode

(Almost as functional as WriteRoom?)

Not entirely full screen: you'll still see the scroll bars, and a 1 pixel high line on top. Nevertheless, to watch a Flickr slideshow Mega Zoomer works great! :)
(Except you have to hide/show the status bar, toolbar etc yourself.)

Note: Opera 9.25 does a real full screen (out of the box), but doesn't respect embedded color profiles of photos (check here, hover on the photo in the center, on the top).

This, combined with Preview (with the toolbar hidden) makes for excellent clutter-free e-book reading. It's just awesome!

This is great... I've used Macs forever, but I've always been frustrated that the Mac does not have a Windows-style maximise. Shame it does not work with Carbon apps... anyone knows if there is a way of doing this?
