About Kensington MouseWorks

it'd be nicer if it was updated for leopard. holding ^ and scrolling the ring doesn't zoom in.

I really quite like this software. Reliable, useful alternate button options (and button chording (more than one at once)), and good control over mouse acceleration curves. Add in app-by-app settings, and it's simply a very good mouse app.
The only real downside I can see is that, regardless of whether your mouse is plugged in or not, it eats up processor power (mine sticks at around 0.1). But that's fairly insignificant.
