I've tried dozens of apps that do basically the same thing. Make a better playlist. This is the only app I have found that actually does the job. It's not very "Mac like", as you have to right click to get to some of the options. And it's not very pretty to look at. But, it gets the job done, and it does it well. The free version does everything I could want. It's a great little app.
Unlike the poster below, I find that the free version does everything I want it to. Pick a song, and it generates a playlist of similar songs. I use it for one-offs rather than building keeper playlists. You can pick the number of tracks, size in megabytes, or length in minutes of the resulting playlist--probably darned handy if you have an iPod Shuffle.
It does a great job with non-pop songs. Tangerine kinda falls down on New Age music, but MusicIP Mixer isn't thrown by it. It seems to do a decent job with classical too, although I haven't used it extensively for that purpose.
Even trying it out takes a fair amount of commitment--the initial analysis of my iTunes library took over eight hours with my Mac Mini's fan on high, CPU usage pegged at 100%. In my view, it was definitely worth it.
I use it a lot when I want to focus on a given task for a while. I create an hour-long playlist or whatever, set it playing, and work until the music stops.
Very nice app.
An interesting tool that although they have a free version, the Premium version has most of the real usable features. You gotta shell out $20 for that version. Listing it as Freeware is not quite correct.
I am also a little concerned with what kind of information MIM is sharing with the rest of the Borg colony...
BTW... their website sucks!
