Namely
Version: 2.5.1 ||
Release Date: 2007-11-19 ||
License: Freeware
Developer: Amar Sagoo
Namely is possibly the fastest way to open applications. And unlike some other launchers, it doesn't require any learning.
You simply activate it using your preferred keyboard shortcut, start typing part of an application's name and see a list of matches as you type. Most of the time, one or two letters are enough. In fact, Namely learns your habits and makes your most-used apps even quicker to access over time. It's basically Spotlight for applications, only much faster, and highly addictive.

I love this app. It's a gem. I launch almost all of my Applications with it.
Personally I made it a NSUIElement - so it won't have a menubar and it doesn't appear in the dock. So the only way to access it is the keyboard shortcut. Fine by me :)
@andrehuf: In my experience, I prefer Namely over Quicksilver simply because I don't use most of Quicksilver's features. Yes, they come in handy once you learn them, but more often than not I only used the program as a launcher. It makes more sense for me to not have all the bells and whistles when all I need is to open a program :)
I don't see why one should not quite as simply use quicksilver instead, which does the same thing but then so much more...
Thanks!
ummm...the link is broken, can somebody send me Namely to me at aimeworks@gmail.com,
thanks!
I'm with ig0774. Tagging would be one improvement to make this THE killer app.
Also, the ability to open Finder.app through Namely (or am I just to stupid?)
But at the moment it does what it should do, open apps, at an unbelievable speed and with unbeatable simplicity. Love it.
This piece of software is a gem... fast and simple... There is only one feature that Quicksilver has that is sorely lacking here: the ability to assign arbitary shortcuts to an application (very often I can't even remember the name of the application I want to run... the ability to create custom “tagged” names for applications would make this a killer app...).
This program is fast, easy, no leraning curve, only do one thing which is launch apps fast. It one of those things that will slowly grow on you. I was a Quick Silver user before I found out about this program. Now, I rarely use Quick Silver anymore. However, i could see no harm done by including a feature to launch items in the System Preference.
I have to say, I think as far as a straight launcher goes, you really can't beat Namely, it's so quick and easy to use. I use quicksilver sometimes as well, but I think it's just too bloated for everyday use. To each their own, but this works great for me!
This little app has become an wholly inseparable part of of my OS X user experience. It does one thing only and does it phenomenally well. I would probably cry if it suddenly stopped working. In fact, I'm getting a little choked up just imagining such a horrible, horrible scenario.
