Name Mangler

Version: 2.3.1 || Release Date: 2010-11-09 || License: Shareware ($10) Developer: Many Tricks | App Owner: iwod

Renaming files has never been easier

If you need to rename several files at once every now and then, this is the application you have always been looking for. Name Mangler is a batch file renamer that supports all common renaming tasks: Find and Replace (including support for regular expressions); Number Sequentially; Change Case; Set Extension; Add Prefix/Suffix; Remove/Insert Characters.

Moreover, you can combine all of these using the Advanced renaming mode, which even comes with some extra features, such as conditional statements, nested counters, and more.

Used to be good when it was a free app called FileList.
Used to also be good when it was free up to version 2
Ever since the devs got greedy and started charging for it it's steadily got worse and worse.
A common problem is either the GUI freezing or it making Finder freeze when you try to drag and drop files into it.
If they do open it takes ages.
Not impressed so deleted...

...there are plenty of paid and free alternatives out there that work much better than this.

Name mangler is not freeware (anymore), see here:

I'm trying to get help with the regular expression matching, but it seems the web site has vanished. Too bad.

Very nice, but weird a list of 24 files takes 20+ seconds to load and freezes the UI on 2 month old hardware...

This application is great. It used to be FileList. This version is a great improvement.

New name: Name Mangler.
Requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

I basically just use this handy tool for generating m3u playlists, but I might start using it for batch file editing too now that I read about it from other users here. Currently I use Automator for such tasks but it's a bit slow to load.

A bit slow to load, maybe it would be better if it were a universal binary.

I only wish you could quit File List by normal Command-Q means. Otherwise, this is my favorite batch renamer!

Excellent app!
