Now with Advertisements... prominently displayed in the interface (3.2b). After paying for NNW (and happy with the speed, elegance), they make it 'free' and introduce ads! It's annoying and much less elegant. But it's the sneakiness of the apparent strategy that really grates. NewsGator should not treat customers like this.
Version 3.2b6 has just been released, with some important changes:
- A new (nice) icon.
- Feed sync now is made with Google Reader. (It will be made with NewsGator until the end of August.)
- ANNOYING adds in the lower left corner of the app's window...
Adds? No, thanks! I'm moving to Vienna.
In 2009 still the best RSS reader on any platform.
I have been using it for months together with the free iPhone app. Both are cool and you can't beat the price.
I have since switched back to google reader (through EventBox on mac and ByLine on the iPhone) mostly because the iPhone app wasn't as polished as ByLine. Also some of the ads in the feeds were a bit annoying to have on my large screen when customers are around (gay thugs dating).
The app is great BUT the killer feature is the NewsGator Online that sync with the app !!!
I think the term "freeware" is misleading, as your data is collected in return:
"And second, we want to collect âattentionâ data (actually I like to call this activity data, but everyone else in the world calls it attention) and use it to make everyoneâs experience better. If there is a specific feed you love, and youâre constantly emailing its articles to friends or saving articles in your clippings, thatâs interestingâ¦and if there are a lot of people doing this, itâs probably a good indicator about the ârelevancyâ of that content for other users. Similar with individual articles that are getting a lot of attention from users. Basically, by using your data, in combination with aggregate data from other users, we can deliver a better experience for everyone. And thatâs a good thing - both for us and for you"

Please bear no mind to my previous comment, I was still fuming from my misadventure. That, and was in rotten mood. I should have waited a while to cool off, and communicate with the developer via the Customer Feedback page (https://www.newsgator.com/feedback.aspx?product=netnewswire) to see if it's an issue which can be dealt with more efficiently.
Mod my previous comment down, to oblivion. I would, if I could.
Please disregard my comment, below. I didn't think.
