This app is really great. Has many useful options. If you like this, you may take a look at f.lux (http://osx.iusethis.com/app/fluxstereopsis), which adjusts the display color temperature according to the daytime.
Just started using this. Makes the screen far more comfortable to view at night.
I like this application although I notice it redraws the screen to black and white every time I move a window. My desktop picture also disappears too. I hope this bug gets fixed in the future.
Terrific idea! I tend to use my computer right before I go to bed. Studies have shown that, just like sunlight in the morning, working at a bright screen at bedtime can interrupt your body's production of melatonin; it's like sitting in front of a light therapy box. I had been using my monitor's brightness and contrast controls, but they're a PITA, and the default color scheme is hard to see on a dim screen.
Nocturne to the rescue: Not only is it nice and dim, but the color scheme reminds me that I'm in "bed" mode, not "surf" mode. It's a great psychological cue. As for keyboard shortcuts, QuicKeys etc. make a nice workaround.
I love Nocturne, it allows me to make my screen dim enough to use in the middle of the night without inverting or removing colors.
Tip: in preferences, uncheck "invert", uncheck "monochrome", set the white "color filter" to a darker color than white (also set brightness to minimum if you're on a notebook, to conserve battery.
This is awesome. I could never understand why is everything on the computers white-based. Documents, websites, everything. And now I found Nocturne, and turning it on is like a massage after a hard day:) At last my brain does not burn out from the brightness of the white screens. Of course, display brightness can be lowered, but it is uncomparable to what Nocturne does.
Bitnix: Nocturne switches modes on launch, so you can set up a Quicksilver trigger to launch Nocturne, and each time you invoke it, it toggles between day and night mode.
'Tis good. Those window drop-glows are gone at last! Good to see I wasn't the only one using their Mac in dark mode as a habit.
Agree. Keyboard shortcuts for various modes (tint, monochrome, invert) would be handy. Or Quicksilver triggers, mmm…
Nice and cool, but I miss a keyboard shortcut to activate and deactivate the screen dimming.
