Has anyone check out the Linux/Windows versions (xPlanet)? They have a bajillion more options. You can zoom in on a particular part of the world and can change the basic picture of the earth for a different one (that can change monthly, showing the seasons). This well-ported as far as UI, but the feature set is much reduced.
@alethinos: It can be useful; my sister uses it to quickly check if her clients in different parts of the world are awake.
As cool as it looks (and is), it eats a ton of processor usage to render each image, especially at the higher quality settings (and higher resolutions). I fiddled with it for a while, but eventually abandoned for my normal background.
Absolutely worth giving it a try, and fun to play around with at times, but I'm not going to suggest people "switch" to an app that does this unless they really REALLY want to.
If you are the developer of an app, you can take it over by using the claim
function on the right hand side of the app view. This requires you to be
logged in.
Opinions:
you could always use fink or macports to install the more "complete" app.
