PhoneDisk
Mount an iPad, iTouch or iPhone to USB disk mode on a Mac. Phone Disk is a tiny program which runs in the system tray of your Mac. When it finds an iPod Touch or iPhone it seamlessly mounts it to your file system so you can directly access files on it using Finder or any other program.
For a limited time Phone Disk is 100% Free!!
Until September 1st 2010, we're giving away Phone Disk to everyone for free! If you unlock the software before that date, you get free upgrades and can enjoy the full version of the software on that computer with no expiration (just make sure you enter the code before September 1st)! Downloaded thinking I could use my iPod Touch as a USB to transfer some files inside just to realize you can only ACCESS files (copy files out of device).
This is indispensable. Many iPhone apps offer nothing but quirky conduits for transfering files to the desktop. In many situations, this solution puts an end to that hassle.
Two things: they've extended the freeware offer until December 1st, and if your iDevice is jailbroken, this utility will let you mount the root directory. Pretty spiffy stuff.
My only complaint would be that its UI is badly designed compared to most Mac apps (which may owe to the developer possibly having started out on Windows and just beginning to learn Interface Builder â” their stuff is largely cross-platform or Windows-only), but you almost never see that part of PhoneDisk anyway, so it's no bother. It works pretty seamlessly, although it occasionally loses track of what's plugged in or not, and can temporarily freeze when this happens. Again, barely a problem when you're actually using it. You may see a duplicate "drive" on your desktop, that's about the worst of it.
Cool, nice find.
