Quicksilver

Application launcher and much more.

Quicksilver is a unified, extensible interface for working with applications, contacts, music, and other data.
Anyone using a computer (and the Macintosh is no exception) spends a lot of time locating files and applications, and then carrying out actions on those items. The Finder is a reasonably good tool for getting a visual overview of the contents of your disk, but it isn't ideal for quickly locating and manipulating files, especially if you have a deep and complicated folder structure, or if you prefer keyboard navigation to using the mouse.

Quicksilver allows you to find what you need quickly and easily, while keeping your hands on the keyboard. For example, if you want to launch an application hidden in the depths of your file system, simply activate Quicksilver with a keystroke, type a few letters of the application's name, then hit Return or Enter to launch it. When you don't need Quicksilver, it keeps out of your way, preserving precious screen real estate, and yet you can summon it instantly with a key stroke - just like Mercury the winged messenger. Actually, Roman mythological texts are remarkably silent on whether Mercury could be summoned with a key stroke, but it would have been great if he could. Quicksilver will certainly make you feel as if you have god-like powers.

I'm using it since yesterday, I wonder how I could live without it.

exilio, not an update in 4-5 months? Seems to me almost every time I press apple-space, quicksilver asks to be restarted because there has been an update :)

No Mac should be without it. Period. Try it. Use it for a week. If you don't love it you probably don't understand its feature set. Speedy, small footprint, can't live without it.

Great program, i use it everyday.

Ofter the longer I use a program the less I need it and the more it becomes a gimic. Quicksilver started as an application launched and as other (gimic) programs showed me a need, I would diccover a plugin or action in Quicksilver that fullfilled that need. I can't use the other Macs around the office anymore.

hi from Chile.
quicksilver is simply the best launcher app. Fast, ligth and it can do anything. Just download it and try.

Quicksilver easily replaces hundreds of small freeware/shareware applications. If someone I know have found a nifty application that does the task x on your Mac, my standard reply is "Oh, Quicksilver has that one built in".

I personally prefer LaunchBar, becasue the keyboard shortcuts make more sense the handling is better and I end up using one or two clicks or keystrokes less than I would have to use with QS.

Also I like to give credit where credit is due and QS was quite frankly taking the idea from LaunchBar which was AFAIK the first keystroke launcher for OS X. And LaunchBar also seems to better adjust to my keystrokes.

Can't be without it.

best launcher and trigger ever, i couldn't imagine using my mac without it
