actually, there was a simple applescript that you could use to make quicktime go fullscreen without paying a cent. Still, I agree that it's obviously easier this way. I guess since Quicklook and Itunes and Imovie let you go fullscreen it was stupid for Quicktime not to.

Wow, fullscreen playback for free - I think it was one of Apples best tricks to make their costumers pay extra for using the area close to the edges ;-)

My employer is buying Quicktime Pro licenses, primarily because I showed him the basics of what can be done with it. QT Pro is undoubtably one of the easiest programs for basic recording and editing (despite missing some rather important features for some cases, especially where audio is concerned), as grabbing specific portions of a video to edit is mind-blowingly simple.
I should point out that, at my job, we help train people in programs, and/or show them the basics so they can do what they want. QT Pro gave us a much easier and much faster option other than Premier and other enormous video editing apps that have a steep learning curve.

That said, standing alone as a player, it's a very good app, but not great. But as it's everywhere, there are a LOT of great plugins that extend its functionality to really be a very useful player. Thumbs up, IMO. It's also easy to include in a program.

One should really use NicePlayer instead. It uses the same engine, allows fullscreen, stays on top, borderless window and playlists.

And free... unlike QuickTime Pro.

I love quicktime becasue it plays back so well, did you know that iTunes basicly runs a copy of quicktime for movies and that frontrow really is running movies from iTunes OR Quicktime?

I grew fond of it as soon as I used in on the mac... I hated the windows version though.

If you just need the Pro version for Full Screen viewing, save your money and see this quick article: http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/mac911/2005/08/fullscreen/index.php

This is the backbone of all of Apple's media applications. Apple is slow to adopt new decoding schemes, but as a whole can decode most formats. Windows users will find that a number of AVI codecs are not supported. This isn't a problem with QT, but rather a problem with the AVI specifications, which allows developers to create their own codecs. People that use pay-site video, my have problems with decodeing AVIs.

WMF,WMV is now supported though plug-ins, through Flip4Mac. So far, there is no decoding through QT of Windows formatted media with Windows DRM.

Users will find it beneficial to go to Apple's QT page and down load any and all plug-ins, as many codecs common on the web are supported, but not bundled with QT.
