R provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, ...) and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible. The S language is often the vehicle of choice for research in statistical methodology, and R provides an Open Source route to participation in that activity.

R for teh win. A very effective statistics program. Not the most userfriendly, but immensly powerful.
It installs just fine using Darwinports and probably Fink. What additional software seems to be required?
I'd love to use it or even try it, but the install requires some other software that I can't download free, at least the last time I tried it.
I love R. Makes my lab run better.
