Set Icon is a small application that lets you quickly and easily set a custom icon for one your drives either from an ICNS file or any old image file that Mac OS supports.

All images are scaled to fit within the constraints of a 512×512 icon.

This sets the icon by moving the resource file onto the target drive and telling the file system to recognize the icon on the drive. The application will also apply any image as an icon in this way. This method is improved over the "Get Info" way as it prevents scaling issues with the sidebar of Leopard and icons and allows icons to show up correctly in the Boot Camp chooser.

Can anyone tell me how this is different than adding a custom icon via the "Get Info" pane?
