Shimo

Version: 3.4 || Release Date: 2014-06-12 || License: Shareware ($39.95) Developer: ChungwaSoft | App Owner: guru

Shimo is the swiss army knife for VPN connections. It supports almost all VPN protocols out there! Cisco, IPSec, OpenVPN, PPTP and even SSH are no problem for Shimo

Shimo is able to automate everything around your secure network connections: Establish connections automatically when you change your network location, execute AppleScripts on certain events or get notified about these events.
This is just a very small excerpt of Shimo's capabilities. Feel free to download Shimo from our website and find out about its extraordinary feature set. The downloadable version comes without any restrictions and therefore you are able to find out if it suits your personal requirements before you buy a license!

@beniamino : this might be true, but Shimo handles wake ups, disconnect and auto connects on known networks which the built in vpn doesn't. I hope a new version of Shimo will use the system vpn instead of cisco's as there's no way to use cisco vpn if you boot into 64 bit SL.

Shimo is no longer needed for Cisco VPN connections on Snow Leopard, as a Cisco client is built in (System Preferences -> Network -> + ). If you have trouble with your Cisco password being forgotten, see here: <http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2009082703155512#comments>

I will add customer reviews to the new homepage very soon!

I see that guru has ceased to use or feature iusethis.com on Shimo's website. I guess direct customer feedback was no longer desirable. Pity.

Of course, it's possible, but please use the ticket function for requests like that, because otherwise I may forget about your comments here on iusethis. :-)

Related to what cuban321 says, is it possible to have an option which automatically re-connects with the last used/default profile? After sleep, the connection most often breaks, so it might be convenient to automatically re-connect after a wake-up.

kind regards and many thanks for the consideration

Please send me an email and we will definitely find a solution together!

If I put my laptop to sleep, when I wake it up Shimo sometimes thinks it's still connected, this is pretty annoying. I like the software, and I'd consider paying for it if it reconnected when I brought my laptop in and out of sleep. Just my $.02.

Good News: In Shimo 2.0.3 you will be able to minimize the nag screen!!! So stay tuned for the new version...

1) nag screen: did you notice (and I very much hope this won't change!) that you actually can drag and drop the nag screen to the bottom left or right corner so that it hardly interrupts with your workflow. It is even ignored by exposé! I think, this way people can easily test this software without being bothered by the nag screen.

2) why I would vote for ONE version WITHOUT nag screen and limited functionality as the standard with an option to pay for the other less frequently used features: Many of us suffer from that CiscoVPN connection problems where only a restart of the VPN (via terminal) helps. While I have no clue why it is like this, I figured out it happens way less often in Shimo 2. This is why it would be nice to benefit from the better version 2 when only basic functionality is needed.
