Examples of Microsoft's 'Embrace, extend and extinguish' strategy: wikipedia

Unfortunately it's necessary to get MLB audio....

He he he MS-speak:
"Enhance existing standards/AJAX-based applications with richer graphics and media, and improve their performance and capabilities by using Silverlight."

Here's the translation:

Enhance existing standards/AJAX-based applications and make them non-standard Microsoft slave apps. Add a lot of bells and whistles that only work properly on Vista and will have lots of bugs on the Mac. We will promise to fix the issues and then drop Mac support in 2 years. Thank you for sucking up to us, you're supporting one of the greatest monopolies on this planet.

And don't forget it's all for a good purpose, so that Bill & Melinda can donate lots of money to the third world to make them look as if they were philantropes.

stay off our platform, microsoft suckers.

WARNING: THIS PROGRAM INSTALLS UPDATES WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT!

You do not need to agree to download updates, it is configured to do so automatically. Further, it DOES download Personally Identifiable Information, although their privacy policy states that it "generally" [but not always] does not.

Think over the implications of sending all sorts of websites your IP address, computer configuration, and other data about yourself.

Besides, WHY do we need this? Is it better than QuickTime or even Windows Media files? Better than Flash?

The Mac community does not need to follow along like sheep with our Windows brethren. Let's see what the informed consensus is regarding this program before jumping in.
