Skitch

Version: 1.0.7 || Release Date: 2011-08-16 || License: Freeware Developer: plasq | App Owner: atariboy

Share images, ideas and have fun with friends online.

Skitch allows you to take screenshots on your Mac, edit them and share them with others. It makes the sharing process seamless by making it a natural workflow to send the image (with edited arrows and other highlights helpful to your client) to them via email or automatic website uploads. It is especially popular with the designer community, as they show their clients rough drafts of their work in a nearly automated process. It makes it simple to work remotely with someone and pass on work revisions and get feedback quickly. Other uses include:

  • Snap a website
  • Capture a chat moment
  • Screenshot an application
  • iSight snap your bad hair day
  • Quickly sketch an idea
  • Tap into your iPhoto Library
Re-open images from your Skitch History

Used to be great. Awful now evernote took over; it actually loses data now and has less functionality than before. A massive backward step.

If Skitch quits unexpectedly, deleting the ~/Library/Preferences/com.skitch.skitch.history file can help.
[v. 1.0.4]

Very good app to take screenshots, even if you don't plan to share them online.
Frame capture is especially useful. (I wish there was a button dedicated to this action, in addition to the cmd-shift-7 keyboard shortcut.)

Also, dragging the icon to a pdf document in Preview allows to add screenshots in the document without creating temporary files that I would have to delete afterwards, making the process faster and more fluid.

Quickly stagnating...

This must be the longest beta-stage application I've ever seen. :)

Thanks. Fixed

iut download link points to an outdated beta version that, once installed, complains that its expired on first run and prompts you to download another update.
This should be the right link from their web site I think:

@unremarkable the glitches from October should be resolved.

@bitnix We are working very steadily on a 1.0 now :) Heaps of exciting stuff coming.

When will this app get out of beta? Just curious since it's been around for very long. (And it's still my favorite screenshot sharing tool.)

An interface even quirkier than ImageWell's, but with added instability. If they stopped it crashing, and gave it a standard interface (stop bloody resizing yourself—that's my decision!), and gave it away without you having to fill in your personal details, &c...but until then, I'm sticking with ImageWell.
