A slip-box is really just this: a loose collection of slips stuffed into a box. Each time you have an idea that seems worth remembering you scribble down a note on an (electronic) slip and put it into the box. Then you can forget about it. When the time comes that you need those ideas, the functionality of the program helps you to quickly find relevant slips and, what is more, relations and links between different slips by means of associative searches.

I have watched SlipBox grow over time - with the latest version (0.8) it has become so useful to me that I am slowly moving all my stuff over from DevonThinkPro. Why? In theory, DT is a far more powerful software, and the AI aspects are wonderful. But SlipBox offers many of the same features (without "real" AI, simply matching similar content), AND then some: it finds similar files on my Mac through Spotlight (very useful if you have a lot of articles in a different bib software, such as BibDesk, to which SlipBox can link), the "scents" that SlipBox uses, etc.
Most importantly, you are not forced to categorize information when you enter it (other than adding some keywords). In my actual work-flow, SlipBox has proven to be far more adept in helping me find and "uncover" the nuggets of information I had forgotten about (which is the whole point of DT and apps such as this, at least for me).
I'd pay for it gladly, but you don't have to. It's free!
Just saw it, downloaded it, and I like the looks of it. Seems clean and simple, worth a try at least.
And free is good.
I'll put something else up here if I change my mind.
