Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.

I LOVE this application. Stellarium is one of my favorite applications ever - one of the kind that makes you happy just because somebody had the idea and made it. Not only that, but made it free, and open too! Lots of respect for the developer, for sure. Appropriately still not at version 1.0 yet; that's going to be an exciting milestone!

if you use any language other than english, stick with stellarium 0.8.2. otherwise the whole ui will be screwed up!

You have to trash the old Stellarium config.ini file because it won't work if it launches straight into full screen. New icon sux, can someone send me the old .icns image? si@simonm.postpro.net

It didn't work for me. It crashed my MBP Core Duo 2 on launch.
