Well, speaking as the author of the app linked here, let me just say that this project was mostly just for fun. I was teaching myself how to use the Java graphics library to be honest.

At the time I wrote this program the "official" pong clock was very much just a concept that the design company hadn't begun to market yet, and I thought it would be cool to make an open source program with the idea since there seemed to be such a desire for it in the tech blog world. I never intended it to take away from the original creators or anything like that, and as it has been said, it was all really just some recreational programming that someone saw and said, "that's cool! put it on sourceforge!"

So hopefully there's no hard feelings :)

um, maybe they just wanted to make one for the sake of it. I mean, I would like to make a pong clock too, and if these guys just wanted to do a project, why shouldnt they? I respect your distain for duplicates because generally the original publisher loses some money to imitation, but the maker of the original made it free so no one loses.

Sorry to report that this is a blatant rip-off of the original at http://burovormkrijgers.nl/index1.html. From there go to Portfolio > Browse > Miscellaneous > Pong Clock.
I'm sure they did a great job programming this, but it's still a stolen idea. They have a hardware version of it too, which got a lot of attention on many gadget blogs, so sure they must have known that.
I wonder why they copied it, 'cause the original software is free too, AND available for Mac.
They original developers don't deserve this, they should be aplauded for making it free, and even making it for Mac's too. How many commercial design studios would do that?
Or, in their own words:
"Dear visitor,
We are priviliged with your interest in our designs, and the Pong Clock in specific.
Because we believe in the internet, and sharing our ideas with you, and our coders Leonardo Lima and Meyric Rawlings feel the same, we offer the Pong Clock screensaver [ currently PC and MAC ! ] for free.
Please, share our good feeling about the internet, and do not re-distribure your free download by any means, but refer to our website instead, thank you."
Credit where credit's due.
Like they do themselves, again in their own words:
"Is it your idea/product ?
Yes, it is; Atari made the first game of Pong ® though, by which this clock was inspired. We are licsensed by Atari to produce and sell this item in a limited edition."

p.s.: no, I don't work for them. Just my two cents.
