Version: 2.84 || Release Date: 2014-07-01 || License: Other Open Source Developer: Transmission Project 2007 | App Owner: arne

Transmission is a free, lightweight BitTorrent client. It features a simple, intuitive interface on top on an efficient, cross-platform back-end.

Transmission sets initial preferences so things "Just Work", while advanced features like watch directories, bad peer blocking, and the web interface can be configured with just a few clicks. Macworld put it this way: "It's fast, it's extremely lightweight, and — even though it's available for a variety of platforms — it behaves just as you'd expect a Mac program to."

Transmission supports full encryption, file selection, a web-based interface, groups, peer exchange, automatic port forwarding, webseeds, watch directories, tracker editing, global and per-torrent speed limits, and more.

Its code is freely available online and is licensed under either the GNU Public License v2 or the MIT License. The development team welcomes anyone who is interested in contributing code, documentation, translations, or other help.

1.0 truly is fantastic. Transmission has become the uTorrent of the mac. Perfectly simple, and works flawlessly.

The new 1.00 betas work great! :)

transmission is useless for me as long as it does not provide a credible plugin on the lines of safepeer/peergaurdian.

peer gaurdian on leopard is problematic.

Azureus is the best option on a mac running leopard even though it causes crashes.

totally agree, 0.82 was the only one working for me, the 0.9x were excessively buggy.

Transmission is currently rather buggy due to a major rewrite, and as a result, 0.9x versions have been banned on some trackers. It is probably best to stick with <a href="">0.82</a> for a while, perhaps until the 1.0 release.

The reason I am not installing this on my mac is transmission does not obey the rules of many torrent sites. It seems to haev some tracker issues due to which sites like ipodtvnova explicitly discourage it's use.

My apologies if this has already been posted, but I really recommend the Second Gear mod posted on MacThemes:

Just a note, though - the cool HUD-style info window is sadly available on 10.5 only.

very impressed with how this app has evolved, new options without sacrificing speed.
