Version 1.66 | Release Date: 2008-05-06 | Download
  • Fixed bug whereby presets were not automatically loaded.
  • Fixed jerky recording when under load (Apple Intermediate, recording World of Warcraft).
  • The above fix may also resolve issues customers have had recording using H264.
  • A number of other minor bugfixes.
Version 1.64 | Release Date: 2008-04-16 | Download
1.64 (16 April 2008)
    Changes
    • Fixed problems with pause where after repeated pauses recording might stop (didn't happen all the time).
    • Fixed issue whereby the grab would become faster after pause (if you never paused while recording you'd never notice this).
    • When paused you can now move the capture rectangle about.
    • Mono option put back in as some people are using the single two channel mic input to record two tracks of audio and balance it later. It's now in Preferences not part of each preset.
    • Fixed bug whereby presets were still reset if you answered "No" to the "Do you want to reset" question.
    • Fixed a possible crash bug.
Version 1.63 | Release Date: 2008-04-14 | Download
1.63 (14 April 2008)
    Changes
    • Updated the Chinese localization.
Version 1.62 | Release Date: 2008-04-08 | Download
1.62 (08 April 2008)
    Changes
    • Fixed screen flicker when recording other OpenGL applications (as long as follow mouse is off).
    • YouTube preset now uses H264 for encoding.
Version 1.61 | Release Date: 2008-03-28 | Download

Noteworthy changes

  • You now have the option to record left and right clicks in the video.
  • The entire capture pipeline is a few percent faster now.

Changes

  • Completely reworked timing system. It is now possible to record the iShowU menu itself (this was impossible using the previous method of frame timing, due to technical reasons).
  • You can now choose to use an alternate method to capture the mouse cursor. This can be set in Preferences.
  • Performance improvements for machines using the Intel GMA 950 chipset (older Mac Mini and Macbooks).
  • You can choose if you want mouse clicks on all the time, or only if you're holding down certain special keys (shift, alt/option etc). See preferences.
  • The "mono" option has been removed (now all microphone audio is automatically recorded as mono). The system audio track remains Stereo.
  • Soundflower updated to the official version 1.3.1. This should fix problems installing soundflower on some hardware (notably PPC). This version allows volume controls to work when "record system audio" is enabled. Note:The upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 is not automatic. You will need to first uninstall Soundflower (use the iShowU menu to do this) and then click on 'record system audio' to reinstall the new one.
  • The registration system has been updated - you can now have it get your registration details from the internet (pretty much the same as you visiting the SWB website and logging in, just much easier) rather than having to copy/paste them into the right fields.
  • Updated the Hungarian, Norwegian and Finnish localizations.
  • Some minor bug fixes
Version 1.58 | Release Date: 2008-03-01 | Download

Soundflower updated to version 1.3 (with a fix). There was a bug in the driver which prevented it from working on PPC systems (it worked fine if you had an Intel machine), this has now been fixed. This version will sit in test for a little while to ensure that it works for everyone.

Version 1.57 | Release Date: 2008-02-16 | Download
1.57 (16 February 2008)
    Changes
    • Soundflower updated to version 1.3. This time I even copied the right Soundflower.kext (the 1.3 version) into the bundle, so that it does install 1.3 and not 1.2.
Version 1.55 | Release Date: 2008-01-03 | Download

- Fixed a memory leak that could cause a crash after 10+ hours of recording.
- Fixed incorrect audio (left/right) balance when "Record system audio" is enabled.

- Reworked all presets. Most now use Apple Animation (generally better for performance), added a preset for WoW that uses Apple Intermediate (if available) or Apple Animation with a slightly reduced frame rate if AIC isn't present. Presets are now included for iMovie HD, iMovie and YouTube / Blip.TV. If the FCP uncompressed codecs are present, then presets are created for these as well. Note: The new presets will only appear for new users. If you want you can reset your existing presets (see the Edit menu), but this will erase your existing presets.
- Sorting for descriptors is now case insensitive (generally makes more sense).
- Default microphone and system audio volumes are now 100%.

Version 1.54 | Release Date: 2007-11-30 | Download
1.54 (30 November 2007)
    Fixes

  • New Features
    • The red dot to close the window has been enabled.
    • Added an option to record at 24p (23.976 frames per second).
  • Changes:
    • Fixed an issue whereby the last few frames of video would not be written out into the final movie.
    • Fixed the problem with white frames appearing at the end of the video (more obvious with slower frame rates).
    • Fixed UI issues whereby splitter limits (between presets and the settings) were not honored with the default window size.
    • Fixed UI issue whereby if the screen was resized and iShowU restarted, the header for the presets table would be out of alignment vertically.
    • Now prompts to check for updates on startup, for first time users.
    • Fixed a bug whereby iShowU might always ask you to upgrade from an activation to a registration.
    • Fixed a couple of memory leaks.
    • Updated Polish, Italian, French and Portuguese localizations.
Version 1.42 | Release Date: 2007-07-10 | Download
1.42 (10th July 2007)
  • New Features:
    • When setting full screen capture, iShowU will now center the capture rectangle on the screen as long as "follow mouse" is not enabled.
    • Split out flushing between frames and high performance capture mode into two separate options. The first can sometimes be useful for those capturing from full screen OpenGL games, the second is useful to get more fps from a capture, but doesn't work on all graphics cards.
  • Changes:
    • The mouse position is now recorded with greater accuracy when using the "with each frame as it is capture" option.
    • The iShowU window will correctly pop to the front when recording is aborted, if the "hide when recording" option is activated in preferences.
    • Capture rectangle can now be pushed to the top and right hand side of the screen (it used to be a few pixels out).
    • By default, iShowU does not use the new high performance OpenGL capture method. You can enable it in preferences. It is known to have issues right now with the Intel GMA950 found in MacBook and Mac Mini machines, if (and only if) you have multiple screens. Works fine for single screen systems.
    • Fixed the selection of high performance / normal capture modes (sometimes the right more was not selected in the capture subsystem itself).
    • Updated German, Norwegian, Russian and Portuguese localizations.
    Version 1.41 | Release Date: 2007-06-28 | Download
    • New feature: Countdown before record
    • Goodbye activation system
    Version 1.36 | Release Date: 2007-06-14 | Download
  • Changes:
    • Fixed a problem that would prevent offline activation working.
    • Fixed a problem that would prevent secure login working (for activation) if iShowU was placed in a folder with non-ASCII characters in its name.
    • New Activation system
    • Updated German, Russian and Catalan translations
    Version 1.34 | Release Date: 2007-05-25 | Download
    • New Features:
      • Simpler! "Ensure capture rectangle is a multiple of 32" option has now been removed from Preferences (iShowU now does "the right thing" all by itself).
      • Audio options now changed to include "custom" - which lets you choose any possible audio format that you want (including 48khz, PCM).
      • Now works with Leopard (including resolution independence).
    • Changes:
      • Added a preference to set the number of frames used while capturing. iShowU used to use (and will still default to) 3 frames. You can increase this to 10 now - which may help smooth capture in some situations, at the risk of putting a few hundred milliseconds of lag into the movie.
      • Added a preference to force OpenGL flushes during capture. This is roughly equivalent to what version 1.33 was doing. Normally it's off as flushes actually put more strain on the OpenGL system - removing them gives more performance in most (nearly all) situations.
      • Fixed a bug whereby if you use an external disk or SMB share (windows) as the temporary location, you would sometimes see an error -43 upon trying to record.
      • iShowU will now try to output audio to some reasonable default device (some kind of output device, manufactured by Apple) if the default system output is already set to Soundflower (2Ch) when you try to record system audio.
      • Fixed the bug with 'record system audio' where you often would not hear audio until you turned off the option, and turned it on again (finally!)
      • Performance improvements for high frame rate recording. You will notice a substantial increase in performance when either recording an OpenGL game, or attempting to record full screen.
      • Fixed the "skewed video" problem that some people found with previous builds, whereby the resulting video would look somewhat like a snowstorm. This may also fix the "green line" on the right hand side of the video that was also observed by some people.
      • Fixed issue whereby system audio playthru would not always work. It often happened when starting iShowU up, and you had to disable the "record system audio" option, and re-enable it.
      • Slow and Normal frame rate sliders have changed to drop downs. This is more consistent with the rest of the UI.
      • Added a new localization for Hungarian.
      • Catalan, Danish, German and Russian localizations updated.
    Version 1.34 beta 5 | Release Date: 2007-05-09 | Download

    * Fixed a bug whereby if you use an external disk or SMB share (windows) as the temporary location, you would sometimes see an error -43 upon trying to record.

    Version 1.33 | Release Date: 2007-03-04 | Download
    • Changes:
      • Fixed a bug whereby recording of video would stop after some time. This affected people differently. Sometimes it would show after a few minutes, sometimes only after 30 minutes.
    Version 1.32 | Release Date: 2007-02-19 | Download
    • New Features:
      • The various actions to change the capture area size (1/8, 1/4, full screen etc) now base their sizes of the screen under the mouse (useful if you connect a projector, then suddenly need to resize to the smaller screen space).
    • Changes:
      • Fixed a long standing issue (cheer!) that caused skewed/slanted video on some machines.
      • Fixed the bug with crashing at the end of recording sometimes.
      • Fixed another bug whereby the sprite track might not record properly all the time (would only happen on fast machines, like the Intels).
      • Fixed problem with the quality radio buttons, whereby they were disabled on machines with no microphone inputs, and would not become enabled when "record system audio" was checked.
      • Shortcut boxes in Preferences now have "delete" buttons, and correctly detect if you're trying to use a shortcut that is already defined.
      • Fixed the capture rectangle handles (they are much easier to click and move now).
      • Fixed the annoying behavior whereby if you were fast enough you could move the "edit capture area" rectangle, release the mouse button, attempt to move the rectangle itself (using the hand icon) and end up still moving the last moved rectangle corner).
      • Updated French translation.
      • Updated Russian translation.
      • Updated German translation.
    Version 1.27 | Release Date: 2006-12-20 | Download
    • Fixed problems with localized languages (that essentially broke iShowU for non-english users)
    Version 1.26 | Release Date: 2006-12-13 | Download
    • New "automated support" tool included. It will check that QuickTime is the right version, and also allow you to cleanup (delete) your preferences if you need to.
    • Now checked for correct (up to date) version of QuickTime upon startup.
    • New 'Unified' look and feel for the user interface.
    • You can how hover the mouse over windows while in capture mode to set the capture size.
    • Now captures the mouse properly (this feature is only available when using 'with each frame as it is captured' mode). All different types of mouse cursors are now captured, including those from OpenGL games.
    • iShowU now automatically tunes its capture speed based on maximum disk throughput. If it does this; it will pop up the status montior with a message to that effect.
    • New status monitor - showing various statistics relating to the new processing pipelines.
    • Fixed bug with multi-threading code, that was causing some crashes for some people.
    • New UI is now resizable.
    • Fixed "Presets" column heading, it no longer allows resizing.
    • Fixed bug where two cursors would be shown when the screen was zoomed in (Ctrl-MouseWheel) while recording.
    • Corrected an error whereby frame durations were not written to the correct frame (they were written to the next frame, not the 'current' frame).
    • Multithreaded OpenGL has been enabled.
    • Video timings have been reworked, so that each frame time is quantized to a proper time within the video timeline.
    • The video processing pipeline has been optimized, with buffered disk writes. Grabbing, compression and disk writes now operate completely independently and are all multi threaded.
    • Updated the Japanese translation
    • Updated the German translation
    Version 1.25 | Release Date: 2006-10-24 | Download
    • Fixed audio sync issues (audio out of sync with video).
    • Fixed video speed issues when using PPC machine where sometimes the video would play back extreemely fast.
    • The time scale of each movie is now based upon it's frame rate, instead of being fixed at 2997. Therefore a 15fps movie will have a time scale of 1550. This has been changed to aid compatibility with Final Cut Pro.
    • Fixed bug where the main window would not come to the front (and be visible) when recording was stopped, and the icon was not being shown in the dock.
    • Fixed some audio issues when using 'record system audio' - specifically, the audio was not played back correctly (as in, monitored) when the sample rate of the * Soundflower (2ch) was changed. For example: GoogleVideo player changes the sample rate from 41khz to 48khz.
    • Fixed problem whereby the reported capture rate was incorrect and also didn't effect the frame grabber rate (when the capture rate is low, the grabber is supposed to slow down).
    • Fixed bug where default output device wasn't chosen correctly if you had chosen a specific device for Sound Effects (in system preferences).
    • Fixed bug whereby the 'show icon in dock' preference was not re-applied upon an upgrade of iShowU.
    Version 1.22 | Release Date: 2006-10-16 | Download

    New Features:
    * Added new Logging options under Preferences, with the ability to log only certain output from iShowU
    * Increased capture speed - 30fps is now possible for most configurations (depends on codec and capture size, as well as the graphics card of the machine). Note: I don't guarantee that 30fps is available for high resolutions or CPU hungry codecs.
    * Support for key/non-keyframes. This means that H264 encoded movies are much smaller. As an example, 10s of video at about 800×600 used to take about 4.5Mb. For a recording where you're not moving the mouse - it comes down to about 317Kb. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're capturing.
    * "Self tuning" capture performance. iShowU now monitors it's own capture performance. If the effective capture throughput is lower than expected (for example, due to the choice of encoder or system load), it will automatically lower the capture rate so that it doesn't consume graphics resources if the encoder cannot keep up.
    * Pause and resume capture - You can now pause while recording, and come back to it later. There are new UI elements on the settings panel (main screen) as well as in the menus and on the status bar menu. You can change the shortcut for pause in preferences.
Image scaling - You can now specify that the video should be scaled while it's being recorded. Warning: this takes a little more CPU - especially with large capture sizes.
    * Time to save the movie has been dramatically decreased. Assuming the file can be moved from temporary store to the selected store - the movie save time will be 'instant'.
    * Text-editable capture size - now you can specify the capture size using two edit boxes (good for precise sizing, where you know the resolution)
    * Feedback - Status meter (on menu bar) now reports the fps of the frame grabber, as well as the actual fps being encoded. You need to enable this in Preferences.

    Fixes / Changes
    * Fixed super fast (300fps) video problems of version 1.21
    * Fixed bug whereby changing the Appearance via System Preferences would cause a crash.
    * Added error handling: if there is no disk space to start or continue a movie, a warning is shown and an attempt to close down the movie cleanly is made.
    * Fixed bug that prevent the audio quality selection from affecting the audio tracks.
    * Both the temporary locations and save locations (specified in Preferences) are now checked before recording starts. If they don't exist, an attempt is made to create them. If this fails, the user is asked to change their preferences. This could cause a crash when iShowU was installed on a new machine.
    * Fixed the bug that caused a kernel panic with jnl:transaction too large.

    Version 1.20 | Release Date: 2006-09-14 | Download

    • Fixed bug whereby capture on secondary monitors didn't capture the right area
    • Made sure that when resizing using the ⌘- shortcuts, the new size is a multiple of 32 if that option is enabled in preferences
    • When run on Intel machines, the Preference 'Ensure capture size is a multiple of 32' will automatically be set to YES.
    • When resizing the capture rectangle, the bounds are now checked. If
    Version 1.17 | Release Date: 2006-08-29 | Download
    • Fixed problem related to the 'temporaryStorage' error dialog that would appear when you closed iShowU. This was actually preventing iShowU from working at all, for new users.
    • Fixed crash relating to Audio capture and QuickTime. Some people were seeing crash logs while starting, finishing recording or even quitting iShowU.
    • Fixed the logging support - now it works once recording starts. Check
    Version 1.14d | Release Date: 2006-07-31 | Download

    New Features (1.14d)

    * New Application Icon

    New Features (1.14c)

    * Added a Preferences menu item to the Status Bar (seen by troutnc)

    New Features (1.14b)

    * Fixed the level meter, for devices like the iSight

    New Features (1.14)

    * Mouse cursor options have changed. You can now specify Sprite or As frames are captured. There is a new popup in the UI to specify mouse recording mode.
    * New shortcut controls (http://wafflesoftware.net/)
    * Added Portugese-Brazil localization (thanks to Fabio Roselet)
    * Added new presets that use AppleAnimation codec
    * Greatly improved performance (particularly running on G4 machines) of the Capture Area Rectangle. This is the rectangle drawn on screen both before and during the capture process. On a Mac Mini (G4), it used to take up to 50% CPU (for a largish rectangle). Now takes under 10%.
    * New menus to : Reset presets, Cut preset, Copy preset, Duplicate Preset
    * Important: If you're using an intel mac, set the capture size to be a multiple of 32. This greatly affects performance (testing was done on a macbook pro, 15")
    * Better feedback for starting/stoping recording of movie. The feedback is presented in the UI as a progress indicator underneath the presets table.
    * New option in preferences to auto hide the settings window when capture starts

    Fixes

    * Updated the Finish translation
    * Changed the capture area rectangle colour to be slightly lighter
    * Capture area now always placed back into visible space, if the screen orientation changes and the old capture area would lie outside of the new visible space.
    * Improved performance of the Audio Level Meter. It's now using CGLayer-ing to perform it's drawing. Note that this does not as yet improve performance of real time capture - this will come in a later release (this is the groundwork for some of it however).
    * Now correctly identifies the default audio input device
    * Fixed bug whereby you could not record twice in a row if audio was disabled
    * Fixed bug whereby a movie could not be recorded second time in a row, if you then also turned off 'Record Audio'.
    * Fixed dealloc bug for sprite track
    * Slight improvements to capture speed on intel macbook pro 15" - now uses about 27% CPU instead of 35% if capturing medium size, 10 fps, with Apple Anination codec. H264 is still slow as it's not optimized for intel.
    * Fixed bug that would crash iShowU when the frame rate was changed mid capture
    * Fixed bug where the user could changing the preset selecting mid recording. This is no longer allowed.
    * Fixed creation of presets (and reset of presets) so that defaults are a multiple of 32
    * Modified the follow mouse behavior. It's must smoother catching up with the mouse now
    * Put error handling in, so that if you try to record without permissions, you get an error dialog (rather than silently failing). This was found while attempting to fix a bug whereby movies could not be saved to NFS volumes. I have been able to save movies to NFS volumes after putting this fix in (and fixing my NFS volume permissions)
    * Fixed bug where the capture rectangle would not stop at the RHS, or bottom of screen
    * Increased the performance of the audio level meter - this was hogging a bit of CPU

    New Features

    • New option to enable 29.97 fps recording (just under the "Normal frame rate" slider).
    • New option to center mono microphone sources.
    • If you run out of space, iShowU will now correctly stop capturing (while keeping the temporary file) and also (if you want) write a small text file to your desktop recording the problem.

    Changes

    • Fixed bug whereby iShowU wasn't setting the audio volume for the microphone track when it started recording.

    • Capture area is now drawn outside of the actual video capture area (in most situations you no longer see it in the recorded video - note: you may still see it if you are following the mouse, have a high capture rate and move the mouse quickly)
    • iShowU now saves its data often, without you having to quit the app.
    • Split out the various options into tabs, for the Preferences panel
    • The tracking speed of the capture area (when "follow mouse" is enabled) can now be set in Preferences
    • You can now set the alpha blend on the capture rectangle color.
    • Fixed a bug in "Edit capture area (using hover mode)" with multiple monitor support* -Added some more support options to the Help menu
    • Improved the visual indicator of capture area size, in Edit Capture Area mode.
