Version 1.3.0 | Release Date: 2009-12-27 | Download

The big task of adding help to all building blocks is now completed, more than 120 pages with illustrations have been written.

Just hit F1 and the help viewer opens with details about the building block. It shows how the block can be connected with other building blocks and explains what each of the parameters does. Best of all the help shows variations of sample output, making it possible for one to scan through the documentation and look for interesting building blocks to toy with. GraphicDesignerToolbox have been struggling with a steep learning curve, most likely because of non-existing documentation.

Improvements since last major release (1.2.0) are 120 help pages, 2 new building blocks, extended several blocks with new features, tweaks for Snow Leopard and some minor changes.

Changes:

  • Documented all building blocks, +120 pages of text!
  • F1 now opens help for the selected block.
  • Added a "Help" menu item to the canvas area, that opens help per block.
  • Extended the Mix block with a "Screen" compositing mode for the alpha channel.
  • Extended the Heal block with a heal-x mode and a heal-y mode.
  • Added a "Cube" block for mapping textures on a 3d cube.

  • Added a "Skip" parameter to the Sharp block.
  • Added a "tiling" tag to the "Chaos" block and the "City" block.
  • Added images to all building block help pages.
  • Edward Reznichenko reported that the Hidden Admin menu was too easy to trigger during launch of the program, you had to hold down just the CMD key. To make it more difficult, you now have to hold down all modifier keys when launching the program.
  • Snow Leopard fixes. Mostly device vs. calibrated color issues.
  • Added a "Shear" block for doing shear matrix transformations.
  • Extended the "Extract" block with CMYK support.
  • Added a "Crystal2.box1" project to "Sample Pack - Texture".
  • The "Mask" block is now obsolete, "Blendmap" is much more powerful.

  • Fixed crash bug in "Slice" block.
  • Removed unnecessary output to the log.
  • Bugfixes.

Version 1.2.3 | Release Date: 2009-09-19 | Download

GDT now runs on Snow Leopard as well. There was only a minor color glitch in the user interface where the drop shadows was slightly wrong. The appearance is now correct.

The biggest change is that all the bitmap building blocks now have documentation. Previously only 50% of the building blocks was documented. Focus for the 1.2.x versions is on writing documentation for everything, and this goal is nearly completed.

It was not a success to raise the project size limitation in trial mode to 20 building blocks, so now the limit is 10 again. Sorry for that. Fewer downloads and visitors and eventually people paying for it. It have had the opposite effect than intended.

Finally a "Crystal2.box1" project has been added to the Texture sample pack.

Changes:

  • Snow Leopard fixes. Mostly device vs. calibrated color issues.
  • Lowered the project size limit from 20 to 10 blocks. Sorry.
  • Added a "Crystal2.box1" project to "Sample Pack - Texture".

Version 1.2.2 | Release Date: 2009-08-25 | Download

The new Cube building block can make these projected screenshots with shiny floor reflections below, that are often seen on websites. Now you can do it too with GDT by first inserting a Photo block followed by a Cube block. The Cube block accepts up to 3 different textures, where the first one is for the front/back faces, the second for the left/right faces and the third texture is used for the top/bottom faces. It has 15 parameters so lots of tweaking is possible.

Focus for the 1.2.x versions is on writing documentation for all the building blocks. Now 54 of the 103 building blocks have a description in the help, so that task is halfway completed.

Changes:

  • Added a "Cube" block for mapping textures on a 3d cube.
  • Added a "Variant" parameter to the Box block.

Version 1.2.1 | Release Date: 2009-08-06 | Download

The max limit of building blocks has been raised to 20 building blocks, so it's easier for everybody to try out GDT without bumping into the trial limit right away. Only 10 blocks was the max limit before.

Focus for the 1.2.x versions is on writing documentation for all the building blocks. This time 11 blocks has been documented, so about 1/3 of all the blocks now have all their parameters described. As usual a new block has been added, the "Shear" block, it's not terrible useful, but now it's there.

Changes:

  • Doubled the max number of blocks in trial mode, so it's now 20.
  • Added a "Shear" block for doing shear matrix transformations.
  • Extended the "Extract" block with CMYK support.
  • Documented the "Arrow" block.
  • Documented the "Box" block.

GraphicDesignerToolbox 1.1.1 - Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope is a new building block that allows you to create symmetric patterns. It has a lot of parameters and it generates nice patterns not only with photos, but also with input directly from the Chaos block! Further more there has been added a "Dicol" block that measures distance from a target color, it's mostly for experts and is useful for making alpha masks.

Besides these big changes there is a number of smaller changes involving rename of blocks and some changes to the sample projects. The Kaleido block is really cool, try it!

This latest release includes support for vector shape editing and filters.

Shape Editing:
Toolbox' new modeless vector editor allows for a unique realtime feedback experience while drawing and manipulating shapes. Start by drawing any vector shape, try out different shape filters, merge with other shapes, and finally do post-processing with bitmap filters - quite a creative experience.

Vector Tagging:
Vector tagging is Toolbox' new automated selection mechanism. Each shape or point can be tagged for further processing, mounting of other shapes and controlling the softening of edges.

New processing bricks:

  • 'edit' for drawing shapes.
  • 'align' snaps points to invisible grids.
  • 'soft' smoothens vector shapes.
  • 'shape' generates supershapes.
  • 'gear' generates gear like shapes.
  • 'transform' rotates/zooms/moves individual shapes.
  • 'mount' attaches shapes onto the points of other
    shapes.
  • 'mix' combines shapes.
  • 'style' color fills and outlines shapes.
  • 'render path' converts vector paths into bitmaps.
  • 'leopard' generates leopard skin patterns.

New example projects has been created which shows Toolbox' new vector processing capabilities.

Other changes:

  • A hidden admin window for changing exotic OpenGL settings has been added. The window can be accessed by holding down the CMD key when Toolbox is started.
  • Toolbox' window layout has been improved.
  • Processing bricks are now tinted in different colors to make it easier to distinguish between their output and processing capabilities.
  • Every well-configured brick has visible output when double clicked.
  • Fixes for several stability issues.

Toolbox 0.7.8 requires Mac OS X 10.5. 2 GB ram. 256 MB vram.
