Version 1.1.3

Summary

Prospects 1.1.3 fixes various bugs. Please report any problems, including QIF/QFX/OFX importing issues, to support@motimotion.com.

Bug Fixes

  • Importing
    • Fixed QIF import issue where transactions without a payee specified would not be imported.
    • Fixed QIF import crash that would occur if a transaction was imported that had an empty amount value.
    • Fixed QIF import issue where categories specified with a space before and after the colon would import with the space in the name. For example, "Auto : Fuel" would import as "Auto " and " Fuel". Now they import as "Auto" and "Fuel" with no spaces in the names.
    • Fixed OFX/QFX import crash that would occur if a positive amount was specified with a plus-sign in front (e.g. +100.00).
    • Fixed QIF import issue where spaces or plus signs (+) in the transaction amounts would cause the import to hang or not import the proper amounts.
    • Fixed crash that would occur when importing an OFX/QFX file with rules enabled where a rule contained a category condition.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Fixed issue where Prospects could not be closed if the "Autosave on Exit" preference was turned on and the file had a problem saving. It now allows you to exit even if the file cannot be saved.
    • Fixed bug where Prospects would not always scroll to the "new" transaction when first opened.
    • If a Binder has the option to not include it's balance in My Prospects calculations, it is now ignored. (Prior to this the setting was ignored and it would still be included in the calculations.)
    • Fixed issue where the Cash Flow Report would sometimes not display (just displayed as an empty page even if there was data).

Enhancements

  • Miscellaneous
    • The Cash Flow Report now only displays categories that have amounts for the specified timeframe. Parent categories are displayed if any of their subcategories appear in the report (for readability purposes).
    • If collapsing a Binder that contains the currently selected Account, Prospects will not collapse the Binder and select it. Before, Prospects would not allow you to collapse the Binder.
    • The column being sorted is now highlighted.
    • If sorting by date in descending order, the "new" transaction now appears at the top of the table instead of at the bottom.
    • Command + / will now show the currently selected transaction's splits.
    • Text now remains vertically centered when editing a value in the transactions table.

Version 1.1.1 | Release Date: 2008-03-25 | Download

Summary

Prospects 1.1.1 contains some new features as well as bug fixes. See below for specific details. Please report any problems, including QIF/QFX/OFX importing issues, to support@motimotion.com.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS UPDATE: Prospects 1.1.1 will upgrade any file it opens that was created with an older version of Prospects. Prior to doing this, it will create a backup of the original file in your home folder under Prospects/Backups. If the upgrade fails for any reason, or you find your data is not accurate, you can revert to Prospects 1.1 and open the backed up file. Please contact MotiMotion support immediately if you experience any problems.

New Features and Changes

  • Checking for Updates
    • You can now check for updates to Prospects via the Prospects->Check For Updates... menu option. You can also choose to have Prospects check for updates at startup automatically in the preferences.
  • Enhancements to Transfers
    • Prospects now allows you to perform transfers from within split transactions. This allows for better cash management.
    • Prospects will now import transfers properly from QIF files. If a transfer is imported, but the other account does not exist, it will be created.
    • When initiating a transfer, the notes field is now also copied initially.
  • Searching and Filtering
    • New transactions can now be added while filtering on the transaction list using the Seach box. Previously, while the list was filtered the "new" transaction was not available.
    • The transaction list can now be sorted by columns. Clicking a column header (such as Category), will sort the transactions by that column. Clicking the column again will sort it in the reverse order. Prospects remembers the current column being used to sort the transactions for each account.
    • The Search box now remembers the last 20 searches.
  • Enhancements to Importing
    • Imported transactions will now be Cleared automatically. This is a preference that can be turned off if desired.
    • When skipping over a potential duplicate during an import, future imports of the same transaction will now be identified as actual duplicates.
    • Added new decimal separator option to allow for importing of transactions that use a comma as the decimal separator (e.g. 123,45).
    • Prospects now takes a "best guess" for the decimal separator and date format. Example: If a file being imported has a sample date of 11/23/07, MM/DD/YY is chosen by default. If the file has a sample date of 11/23/2007, MM/DD/YYYY is chosen instead.
  • Miscellaneous
    • The Account icons in the account list are indented more to further differentiate them from Binders.
    • The "new" transaction will always show today's date when switching to an account.
    • Budget Items defined as Goals can now use any of the options under "Occurs". Previously, you were limited to a subset of all the options.
    • Prospects will no longer startup on Mac OS X 10.4. Prospects is not supported on 10.4 (Tiger).
    • For Credit Card accounts, the credit limit must be positive; if a negative limit is entered, Prospects will make it positive.
    • The blue Budget Advisor header appearance was not consistent with the ViewPoint headers; this has been changed.
    • The autocomplete feature for Payees did not autocomplete for existing transactions. This has been changed to autocomplete whenever possible.

Bug Fixes

  • Crashes / Lockups
    • Fixed crash that occurred when creating accounts that had an empty balance or credit limit.
    • Resolved problems where empty transactions in a transaction list could cause Prospects to crash while editing or adding transactions.
    • Fixed potential hang while importing due to a problem with the Rules when setting the transaction Status or Notes field.
    • Prospects now properly closes the import window if an import file could not be read by Prospects. Previously, the window would remain open in a state where it could not be closed.
  • Importing and Transfer
    • Fixed handling of OFX/QFX files containing multiple statements. This had resulted in "validation" errors during saving, but has been resolved.
    • In general, improved importing so no "validation" errors will occur during a save.
    • Better handling of importing splits.
    • Removed ability to transfer a transaction if it has already been transferred.
    • Reports no longer show up in the list of available accounts when transferring a transaction.
  • Miscellaneous
    • The What's Left Over ViewPoint now displays "No Data Available" message for months with no data.
    • Resolved issue where some budget items created in Prospects 1.0 through 1.0.2 would not open in Prospects 1.1.
    • Fixed Category/Payee Totals ViewPoint issue where it would ignore transactions on the first day of the month in its calculations when filtering on “This Month”.
    • Prospects now properly clears the Search box when switching between accounts.
    • Fixed issue where the splits window would show the difference as -0.00.
    • Fixed calculation error in the Net Worth History bar chart in the Binder and My Prospects views.
    • Fixed issue where a Cash account would not appear in the list of available accounts for reports.
    • Prospects properly autocompletes the year when the date format contains the full year (e.g. 2008). Previously, it would autocomplete the year as 0008 instead of 2008.
    • Prospects had problems handling categories with spaces that started with the same word (e.g. Home and Home Utilities). This has been fixed.

Known Issues

  • Prospects does not handle OFX/QFX files containing multiple accounts. An OFX/QFX file can only be imported containing a single account.
  • Some OFX files from banks are ordered backwards. This may cause Prospects to import transactions on the same day in the reverse order as would be expected.

Summary

Prospects 1.1 contains some new features as well as bug fixes. See below for specific details. Please report any problems, including QIF/QFX/OFX importing issues, to support@motimotion.com.

If the upgrade fails for any reason, or you find your data is not accurate, you can revert to Prospects 1.0.2 and open the backed up file. New Features and Changes

Ability to transfer between accounts. See the help page on transfers for details on how they work in Prospects. Note new preferences have been added for working with transfers!

Date formats now adhere to what is set in your Mac OS X system preferences. Prospects uses the "short" format for all its data. See Apple's documentation for how to modify your system date format if it is not displaying as you would like.

Toned down the green color for the C/R column in the transactions table.

Cleaned up main window title; no longer displays ".prospects" extension and now displays the currently selected account/binder in brackets.

The Category panel has new buttons to add a category at the "top" level or under the currently selected category. See the help for details.

The Recent Transactions ViewPoint now displays information regarding split transactions as follows: If filtering on the category and a split transaction is selected, it shows all split transactions.

When filtering on the category, it now only shows the proper split amounts instead of both the split and the "parent" amounts. If an amount being shown is part of a split transaction, the Payee / Description is preceeded by "(S)".

When filtering on the payee, it now displays "(Split)" for the category of a split transaction and only displays the split transaction total amount, not the amounts that were split.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where filtering on the transaction list with the search box and then clearing the search data caused Prospects to produce an invalid list of transactions if splits were present in the account.

When adding or moving categories, Prospects would not always sort the updated list properly in the category selection popup in the transactions table. This has been fixed.

Fixed issue where disabled Rules were still being applied by Prospects.

Fixed problem with the "Set Status" value for Rules where it would either behave unexpectedly or not save due to a "SETSTATUS too large" error.

Fixed issues where the balance column and the "Balance on <date> ..." for credit card accounts did not always adhere to the preference to show credit card balances as positive amounts.

Resolved some issues with dragging categories where Prospects would allow invalid drag and drops, causing the application to crash or not drop the category properly.

Fixed bug where Prospects would create a new Binder under another Binder. (Prospects does not currently support Sub-Binders.)

When control-clicking (right-click) in the table header of a credit card account, it now displays the proper names of the payment / charge columns for selection.

Fixed issue where binder and My Prospects displays would incorrectly show net worth history past the first actual transaction date available.

Fixed issue where bar charts would not properly center a small number of bars that did not fill out the full graph.

Known Issues

Some OFX files from banks are ordered backwards. This may cause Prospects to import transactions on the same day in the reverse order as would be expected.

Receive a "cannot save" error when trying to save a Prospects file after importing an OFX file that contains multiple statements.

If you are importing transactions from other financial software containing splits, you should double-check to ensure the split values are correct. Depending on how the software exports its data, Prospects may not be able to properly setup the split values. You can view the splits via the "Show Splits" button in the category column of the transactions table.
